Summer is no doubt for most people the most anticipated season of the year because of the balmy temperatures and the constant presence of the warm, welcoming sun. But incidentally, it is also the most damaging time of the year for your skin. The ultraviolet radiation from the sun penetrates into the deepest layers of the skin and dehydrates it, interfering with the structure of collagen and elastin fibers, which leads to wrinkles.
Excessive sun exposure causes collagen fibers in the skin to decrease in number and break apart. In addition, it causes elastin fibers, which are responsible for the elasticity of the skin, to lose their ability to snap back into shape. Both of these factors contribute to the formation of wrinkles. So next time you go outside, don’t forget the sunscreen!
